Spiritual Purpose:

Is the force that keeps the spiritual journey "on track" and helps to focus the power of the purpose where it will have the most positive effect. Spiritual Purpose on the other hand, is like a light in front of you showing you the direction that is in your overall best interest. This overall best interest might include painful circumstances, but this is sometimes needed to help us overcome our resistance to growth. Without purpose, fragmentation results and effort is wasted. Spiritual purpose and material purpose is very different. Material purpose is like a force behind you pushing you toward your goals. Spiritual purpose, on the other hand, is like a light in front of you showing you the direction that is in your overall best interest. Essentially our presence in the physical world is for spiritual purpose. Unfortunately, there is no physical or material counterpart to spiritual purpose, therefore the intellect can not fully understand the connection. In order to gain the knowledge of purpose, one must extend one's reach beyond the intellect into the intuitive. Different spiritual paths have different purposes although, at the highest point, they all merge into one. Some people believe that being "more spiritual" will allow them to go to heaven. Others believe that being spiritual will ensure a better incarnation for the next life, or perhaps eliminate the need to reincarnate altogether.

 

For some, ego satisfaction plays a part in the desire to be more spiritual. Perhaps one wishes to be perceived as a "spiritual person," and believes that the respect and admiration of others will accompany this perception. Clearly, this is not a good reason to pursue spirituality, since resentment will occur when such hoped-for benefits do not appear. If one is going to pursue a spiritual path, one must have a correct purpose for doing so.
