Tarot (Tar-oh):

A set of 78 cards with pictures and symbols that are used for divination by connecting the reader to the subconscious mind. Tarot is a system of symbolic images on cards. The 56 cards in the "minor arcane" are divided into four suits: wands (symbolizing action); cups (emotions); swords (intellect); and pentacles (material concerns).  The 22 cards of the "major arcane" depict archetypes and elemental forces.  The cards can be used to determine the past, present and future of an event or person and can become powerful tools in magical workings and rituals.  Tarot is currently also used as tool for reflection on one's personal life, as well as an aid to meditation.
